Reel Florida: “The Infiltrator” and “Edward Scissorhands”

There have been many films based on the Florida landscape, but not as nearly as many were actually filmed on location in the Sunshine State. “The Infiltrator” was thought to have broken that trend with its eight day shooting schedule across over 20 Tampa Bay locations.
However,Ben Afleck’s recent film, “Live by Night” proves Florida’s film incentives are a needed asset when it comes to location scouting. “Live by Night” is based on the novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane. The story follows an Ybor City bootlegger who becomes a notorious gangster, but instead of filming in the authentic streets of Ybor, Afleck and his cast and crew relocated to build and shoot on a Georgia soundstage.

This video stands in as an introduction to a project I am working on. I hope to capture the sights and sounds of “Reel” Florida and uncover the true loss the state faces when eliminating tax incentives for feature films.

Have there been movies filmed in your area? Let me know below, scouting out filming locations is a fun hobby of mine and I would love to hear of more spots to check out.
